Making a transition between careers is never an easy choice but add in enough passion and you get someone following their dreams and doing what they love. Binndi Suvarna is one such person. She is a self-made passionate makeup artist. An investment banker who chose to follow her dreams all the way to London where she trained in Fashion and Beauty makeup at the world-renowned Delamar Academy.

An interesting fact is that she was in the top 5 of the Gladrags Mrs. India contest in 2009 and won the coveted Best Model and Best Smile awards!

She chatted with us in an Ask Me Anything session in the Beauty and Makeup Community.

Here are 10 hand-picked questions asked by the members and their responses by Binndi:

#1. What’s the best part about being a makeup artist?

Binndi: I simply love what I do and hence to me every part of being a makeup artist is the best! Be it traveling, shopping for the kit, designing looks or even standing for hours while you're on the job. I enjoy every bit of it.

#2. Hi Binndi. Do you think one can learn tips and tricks by experimenting alone and without an expert’s help?

Binndi: There is nothing you cannot do by yourself. However, it's best to assist good makeup artists and also practice a lot to gain more confidence.

#3. Any skin care tips for brides-to-be?

Binndi: For brides to be, please ensure that you sleep well, stay hydrated, eat healthy food and follow a good skincare regime every day.

#4. What can we do for stretch marks?

Binndi: It’s difficult to remove stretch marks completely from the body but you can use the cocoa butter formula from Palmers to lighten the appearance. It's always best to keep the skin well moisturized at all times to avoid stretch marks. Especially during pregnancy, apply your creams 2-3 times a day right from the 4th month until 3 months after delivery.

#5. What products should a college girl carry for daily use?

Binndi: I'd say the basics.. A good moisturizer, mascara, kohl, lipstick (you could use it as a cream blush as well), compact /setting powder and a BB cream. If you have any skin problem, then you could use a few other products to target specific issues.

#6. India doesn't have a lot of popular international brands, any websites you can recommend where we can order such brands from?

Binndi: There's cult beauty which is UK based, frends beauty which is US based and many more that provide an option of international shipping. But the only thing is that you'd need to pay 40% or so customs duty in India when the products are delivered.

#7. Mujhe bahut zyaada paseena aata hai jis wajah se main face par Kuch Nahi Laga Sakti. Could you suggest me some cream?

Binndi: Use an oil-free moisturizer and a primer before applying makeup. Also, try the Maybelline Fit Me a foundation that works well for oily skin. Try using more powder-based eyeshadows and blushers so that your skin doesn't get more oily with cream-based products.

#8. Ma’am, my face looks tanned and dull and I have dark circles under my eyes... What can I do?

Binndi: Please exfoliate your skin at least once a week. Use face packs and masks twice a week. Try the ones from Innisfree depending on your skin type and condition... they are really good and affordable too. The overnight rice sleeping pack is a good idea, to begin with. If your skin is not oily, you can also try applying good quality almond oil overnight on the face. Also, vitamin-c serums are a good idea too to brighten the skin. Try following this for a month or two and let me know if you see any changes. Once it gets better, you just need to ensure you maintain a healthy skin routine. Apply a sunscreen every day. This is the most important step!

#9. What are the best BB creams that are less harmful to skin and are affordable too for housewives?

Binndi: You could try the L'oreal or Maybelline BB creams. Good and affordable.

#10. Can you tell me the benefit of studying abroad and if the return is worth the investment?

Binndi: Studying abroad does have its own benefits but the return on investment depends on various factors - your skills, the amount of hard work you put in, where do you plan to work, your goals and a lot more.
