Today, the tourism industry is responsible for providing approximately 10% of employment globally. The booming industry has a multitude of varying jobs that are all important to move things forward, however a common component of all of them is good communication skills. While dealing with people from different cultures, and who speak different languages, it is important to have good social and organisational skills if you are thinking of being part of this industry. Whether you’re on the field as a guide, or behind the scenes planning and organising, there is a lot to do and a lot of roles to fill. Being friendly, accommodating and having a love for travelling and sharing experiences is highly important to be successful in this field. Think about your interests and whether you’re ready to be part of this fast paced and ever-changing industry. A few examples of careers in the tourism sector are travel agents, travel writers, hotel management, tour guides, concierges, air hostesses, and many more.
