Work and travel - finding the balance
“I want to quit my job and travel the world!”
How many times have we heard people say this? There are two kinds of people – one who actually do it and the other kind that keeps saying it but do nothing about it.
Could there be a third kind? The one that finds a balance between the two? What if there is? How is it possible?
‘I love my job. I have the career I have always dreamt of.’ ‘I love to travel. I want to explore the whole world.’ One needs to find the perfect balance between the two.
Let’s calculate the number of holidays does we get during a year. Accumulated we approximately get a month off in a year. A month! 30 days! Why not break them up in 4 parts - a week each and travel to 4 different places? Why does it become so difficult?
The other getaways could be planned on the long weekends, which pop in from time to time giving us excuses to hit the road. Let’s just pack our back and venture places we always wanted to visit.
All of us live in great cities but do we know what makes these cities great? Apart from our favorite hangout areas, do we actually connect with the city? What part of it connects us to our past? Forget long weekends, a day out exploring the hidden gems of our very own city could help us find that travel balance in our lives.
We all take out our office bags every day. Time we took out our travel bags too in equal proportions and find a balance. Also have the best of both worlds.
