Consistency and stability are significant distinctions that employers look for when hiring employees. A big gap in career is not always taken positively in any field Whether it be personal reasons or any other hitch, a career gap in the IT industry is always treated as negative. But you do not have to worry.

Many professionals do come back to IT after both long and short breaks.

Be Strong and Positive

Don't hit panic if you had a gap , your career is not gone. Every problem has its own solution.

Apt updating of skills is necessary for getting a job you desire. Even if you hold the best degree in education with years of experience, if you have taken a break in your career; re-skill. A break of six months should be the maximum break for any tech person. A gap of more than a year may lead to a lower position.

Even a consistent career with no skill update makes no sense in such a situation.

Re-Polish Yourself

In any industry, it’s a struggle to go back and restart a career. In the technology industry, since technology changes every single day, maintaining a proper update of the changes is a must. Getting accurate technology training and being on par will increase your chance of boosting  yourself in the IT industry.

Soft skills relate to an individual’s emotional intelligence Quotient which helps in building personality, a way of communication, convincing power,  managing human relationships, interpersonal skills, etc.

Get certified again

In order to return and continue with your IT job,  a tech restarter must be very alert and enthusiastic. Try your best to know which new technologies are in high demand in the market and start getting trained. Various corporate technology tools such as Hadoop, Big Data, Analytics, Spark etc. are in the market. Research on them and find out which tool goes parallel to your previous work experience. Use your experience, revise what you had learned, and check out the updates in the particular field – you have to make yourself job ready with training and practical exercises.

Brush up your programming and operational skills with the desired courses and get certified with excellence. Make sure you do your certification from a renowned company. Staying up to date with your IT skills is the only and most wanted criteria for you to get the job you deserve.

NIIT is a leading company that provides soft skills and corporate training certifications which are in high demand. Along with technical courses, it has got certification for  spoken English and personality development and a special certificate program on interview skills. Once you learn java, you could definitely appear for the Oracle certification, which is  a perfect tool to get a job in the java domain.

Certain certifications, that help people grab the IT jobs with ease are:

Be a little more Social

You should always keep a very cordial relationship with your colleagues as well as with  your ex-colleagues. If you have contact with your previous colleagues, that’s  a plus point. If you have no connection, then start rebuilding connections with your ex-colleagues as well as start making new connections with people in the IT industry. Try to expand your network as much as you can. Learn the newest tactics and developments from your connections. Distribute your resume to all your connections and let them refer you to their companies. Your social network will help you the most in getting you a new job. So maintaining a good relationship with your colleagues is a must. Contact  your ex-boss or manager who knows you are good at work and who has confidence in your performance. But before proceeding for the resume distribution, just  make sure you are job ready with a complete technology update.
