Severe PMS Severe PMS

We are aware of the discomforts of periods and PMS. PMS symptoms wary from person to person. Some feel it mildly while it's a dreadful experience for others. Fitness blogger and body positive instagrammer Malin Olofsson gets real about what it’s like to live with extreme PMS.

In her recent Instagram post, Malin posts a picture of her bloated belly, explaining that she suffers from severe PMS.

“Some of you have seen this before, some of you haven't. Some of you experience and go through this yourself every month. Some of you will be disgusted. Some of you will sigh with relief and think- “Omg I'm not alone.” Some of you will not read this caption and presume that I'm pregnant.” She wrote.

Malin explained how visual symptoms of PMS are more for her and some other women. “Water retention is a very normal and common symptom of PMS. Some women will hardly notice it and some go through immense discomfort a couple of days every month.” She added.

Malin assures her followers that “THIS IS NORMAL!” She says “This is nothing to be ashamed of. Yes-it is very uncomfortable and, yes-it's really difficult to not feel like you must hide it and suck your stomach in. I've stopped. I've decided that breathing is more important than what other people may or might think. I've decided that my body's reaction to the hormonal change is going to be an aspect that I let contribute to my already troubled mental state. Because when I have PMS, I already feel like dying and I've decided to love my body no matter how I feel about life.”

Malin, who is also a survivor of anorexia has been promoting body positivity and acceptance on her instagram for over a year now.

“Do not blame your body for how you're feeling. It's never your body’s fault. It's never anything wrong with how your body looks. Yes-your body might experience discomfort through hormonal changes- so instead of making it worse through shaming your body, try doing the opposite. Realise that this is when you need extra self-care and self-love. Realise that you don't have have to be ashamed and hide. You are perfect and your body is just doing its job.” Malin wrote.

Though causes of bloating may be different for everyone, Malin was immediately appreciated for her bravery by her followers. To which Malin showed immense gratitude and thanked her followers for the support. “I want to give others what I needed myself. I do this for the people who are in the same position as I once were. I do it because maybe, just maybe I can shorten someone's process towards self love.” -Malin wrote.

And we agree with you Malin. To love yourself no matter how your body looks because of your body's shape or size will not be a constant factor. Kudos to women like Malin who encourage other women towards self love. Thank you for sharing such an honest pic!
