i have very recently launched my startup of recruitment. need to know how should i go about for companies to give me work opportunity for them for recruiting on retainership and individuals should send in resumes. also how should i structure my fee charging after the individual is selected for the desired job

Hi Neetu! Welcome to entrepreneurship! The first thing you have to figure out is how your offering is (significantly) different from those of others. There are many recruitment firms, of all sizes. So why should anyone choose you over others? Is it your process, your pricing model, better results, specific industry expertise, or something else? You have to be compelling for both companies and for job seekers. I am not very aware of the pricing models, but have seen some different models in the market (full upfront payment for any number of employees in a certain period, x% of CTA paid in two instalments, retainers, etc). But in general, if you have a great and demonstrable way of improving the chances of a hire, in a short time, then you can get a company's attention. If you already have a client, focus on the great outcomes you are delivering for them. And use them as case studies easily available on your website. If you don't, you will have to find a client to work for, maybe give a couple of hires for free to establish trust and rapport. And then build from there. Hope this helps.

Hi Suma, I am an IT professional with a total work-experience of 10 years, mostly on reputed telecom billing platform - Singleview. In November 2013, I had to take a career break owing to medical reasons. Now I am ready to resume my career, however this time round I am looking for work which has greater flexibility & work-life balance. At the same time, the telecom billing platform, I worked on, is a niche product, the job opportunities are very minimal, hence its difficult to resume the same. During the sabatical, I have learnt(self) one of the mobile application development platform (Sencha Touch). At the same time I have a keen interest/flair for writing and see myself working well as a Technical writer. Since you have greater insight in many work industries, I seek your advice on 2 aspects: 1. Whichever stream I choose , I would be starting as a beginner and my 10 years of IT experience maynot be considered, is it a pragmatic approach? Is it possible to find a technical writing job in Telecom domain where my previous work experience can also be considered ? 2. If possible can you please advice which of the stream - mobile application development or technical writing can provide a better & stable career, assuming that there are many ( young & energetic) mobile app developers available to be recruited. Thanks & Regards Priyanka
31 Aug 2015, 07:36am
Hi Priyanka, tough question. I do think you have a good chance of landing something in tech writing for telecom application providers. So do explore that. You might feel like a starter in the tech writing field. But it would be a good idea to do some writing on telecom applications, to see how your writing is, and possibly run it through someone from that industry. You would quickly get an idea of where you stand. And what you need to improve on. I would not consider you as a starter, as you would eventually end up spending far less time understanding the technicalities than a writer who doesn't have programming experience. So that's a plus. As for the app part, I agree with your PoV that you have to contend with far younger, more experienced professionals. But I still think you could land TL roles in large teams. But eventually you have to take a call on what you enjoy more. That will automatically address a bit of your work-life balance issues. Hope that brings some clarity.

Hi Suma, Hope you are doing fine. I am a mother of 17 years old and I have a 11+ experience in Corporate, BPO, KPO and ITES. I quit from my job recently for night shifts. I feel the tragedy in India is the more experienced you are, the more difficult is for you to get jobs. I have been rejected now a days for being over qualifies.... any suggestions?
21 Jul 2015, 08:18am
There does seem to be that general attitude in the industry, but usually I hear that for people with 20+ years of experience. My point of view is that it's simply a belief that you are choosing to adopt as your own. One tends to view things through the lens of one's experience, and hence sees things in a limited sort of way. The first thing i would do is stop believing this statement, that there are fewer jobs out there for more experienced people. So it's like a shift in mindset one needs...believe that there are fabulous opportunities for you. You could review your skillsets and see the job profiles, companies and industries that can leverage your strengths. This will take work. You can ask your friends and family to help out. And create a list of such places, adding a few to that every day. And drop mails to those companies, meet people, hang out at relevant events. Things should change, because your mind would have shifted. Let me know if this helps.

Hi Suma, I am a Civil Engineer by qualification and my professional experience of 6.5 years was in Design Engineering. I took a break of 8 years from my professional career in order to raise my son. Later I restarted my career in the academic field and was teaching in an ICSE school . I taught Technical Drawing applications to std 9 , 10 and physics to std 6 to 10. Later due to relocating to another city I again had to take a break. Now its two years since I took the break and would like to get back into work. I want to take up something interesting. Could you suggest what all oppurtunities are there?. I would prefer flexi time type of job . I am not very keen to get back into teaching at school or design engineering either. I want to upgrade my skills but am not sure about the various options. Could you please guide me.
01 Jun 2015, 09:17am
Hi Srividya, Now might be a good time to really start evaluating what you do really want to do. You already have a fair idea of what you don't want to do. Think back on moments, instances, where you felt most joy with what you did. Maybe those moments come back to you. You can also assess your strengths. Also ask your family and friends about what they think your strengths are. You might be surprised by their answers. These exercises will start giving you the direction to the paths you should be considering. And then figure out what the market offers for those interests and strengths. I think, more than just jumping into a new game, figure out what you want to play. Hope that helps.

15 May 2015, 04:59am
Hi Pooja, Sorry for the delay in replying. I am not from the IT industry, so hopefully you would have checked out your options with others as well. I think it would be great to pick your expertise domain, and see what new technologies are current and in demand? You can look at IT job openings posted here at Sheroes and other job portals to get a sense of what is hot right now. And get yourself skilled in those technologies. Lots of online courses exist today, so I think you would be able to find videos, tutorials and more which you can follow to at least get back into the groove. Also read a lot, hang out in online chats where domain discussions are happening. Once you feel a bit more confident about the technologies you have chosen, you can start applying for jobs. Quality management and ops areas that I assume will never go out of style, even if the technologies do. So you already are in a good place to resume your career. All the best!

I have 11+ years of exp in IT industry. I took a break 4 years back to take care of my kids & family. Now that they have grown up, I wish to start again but not interested in going for a 9-5 job, as i wish to stay with my family in the evening. Presently i am teaching online, but i want a more challenging job/ business. I am not that good at marketing, but technically very sound. Can you guide me to choose a career that would suit me. Thanks & Regards
07 Jan 2015, 07:26am
Clara, your bio is very impressive, and I don't see why companies should not explore you for many of their flexi work roles. You will find several such job opportunities listed here on Sheroes. It's not just the big companies that offer such options. More and more small and mid-size companies are realizing that this is the right way to find the right talent for their companies. Do go through the options here, new job opportunities are added everyday. And if it's challenge you are looking for, you could explore startups as well, as they will need your skillsets and maturity. Such an opportunity could tune you into business realities, and you'll be able to see how you want to go about eventually starting a business (if that's an idea you want to explore). For example, your skills of training, creating course content, handling clients abroad can be brought together to help train teams in companies finding it challenging to service such clients. Also, you might want to explore if you should learn some new tech skills that will give you further leverage. Hope this helps.

hi I'm Reema Gupta I'm a mother of a girl came from small town want to start my career and wanted to be an example for my baby so that she can be pround of her mother. please guide and help me
01 Jan 2015, 09:59am
Hi Reema! Yes, you're absolutely right that you must set an example for your daughter. I would suggest that you think about the activities that you love and that you are good at. And find a career that will make use of your interests and your abilities well. Do share some more about your educational background and interests. We might be able to give some ideas. If your daughter is an infant, then you could explore working from home. If your work requires you to go out, then build a safe and secure support system so that the daughter is well taken care of when you are not around. Be ready to deal with guilt, fear of your own, and some trouble from the kid if she is used to having you with her all the time. The key is to ensure that you are fully present when you're with the kid. And tell her about going to work so she also starts understanding what it means. Over time I think she will sense your feeling of joy and achievement related to work, and start imbibing that as well. And don't bring work related stress home. Hope this helps.

Hello Suma, Hope you are doing good. I am a chocolatier with my special and limited edition of home made chocolates. I have been promoting my chocolates through friends, family and so on word of mouth.. It was at a very small scale that I was doing it till now. But with the kind of response and reviews that I have come across for my chocolates, I believe it would not be right if I do not take it further on a larger scale. I would like to know if you could help me with some idea to promote my product. Currently I would not be in a position to invest a high monetary figure for promotion. I am really keen on taking it ahead and making it a full time career. Please advise. Thanks & Regards Anila
