Hi Neerja, I have worked in technical domain -SAP for 7 years. After that I felt I needed to get out of programming and coding and wanted to get into project management. I have some experience in project co-ordination,resource management, timesheet calculation, requirements gathering, client engagement.I am also inclined towards knowledge management, training and am pursuing a course for the same. But anywhere I apply to,I get bogged down by questions like why do you want to move out of such a good technical profile etc. Please suggest what options can I look for so that I can work in the technology field/sector but not in core tech/coding. 28 Nov 2016, 02:52pm
You do need to think about why you want to move out of the technical domain into project management. It is a good field to be in, but not everyone succeeds as there are certain attributes that the person needs to have including passion for some of the management fundamentals which differentiate a good project manager from others.
Regardless, if you still want to make that switch, I wold recommend you make the switch in your current company so that you continue to be familiar with the organisation and the teams and can make a smooth switch to the other field.
Other options that you can look at are training or technical writing. View Less
