Hello Monica, I have been in the HR BP space for 7 years now and last year I have moved into an L&D role. While I am very excited about this move, I have not been able to deliver on this role as I am not formally trained for this function and am learning on the job. Its now been a year and my contribution to the role is lesser than expected. I am demotivated and now thinking that I have made a mistake by taking up this change in role.

Hi Priya.I can understand the disconnect especially since you are judging your performance as below par.It is really about understanding the difference between the roles.Try to bring on a different perspective.From evaluation,policy and compliance ,you need to make the shift to learning ,skill and and performance.Basically from judging and evaluating you need to bring the focus on aiding .motivating and assisting the employees to improve.In fact this is a chance to contribute to employees growth in the real sense.Look for a learning and development training from ISTD or a coaching qualification.It will help you greatly in this profile.In fact ,this has great potential for the future too especially in terms of independent consultancy and flexible work.All the best .Let me know if you want to chat on this further.Regards,Monica
