Hello Megha, Thank you for reaching out. Freelance/part time opportunities in recruitment usually come with commission based compensation. It would be difficult to find jobs that offer fixed compensation. However, I suggest that you post your profile on workflexi.in, which is a platform exclusively for part time opportunities. I also recommend that you create a strong LinkedIn profile, and connect with companies in Kolkata that you would like to work with, and engage with the HR professionals. Networking is helpful when you are keen on specific roles. I wish you the very best! Regards, Keerthi

06 Dec 2016, 02:53pm
Hello Sharwari, thank you for reaching out to Sheroes. 4 years is a long break if one requires to get back to work in the technology domain. The first thing I would recommend, is that you take up a few recent certifications on .Net/C# so that your profile displays your ability to learn quickly and being abreast with the new technologies. Secondly, since you are keen only on part time roles, be prepared for a long wait if you are particular about joining a corporate. However, there are recruitment staffing companies that offer candidates to large corporates on contractual basis. You may want to consider applying for opportunities with such firms. I also suggest that you check for projects on platforms like elance.com where individuala/companies post their project requirements asking for help. Working on a few of these would also help you build a credible resume that would help you in the future. There is a platform workflexi.com, which is a community that only focuses on part time/contract jobs. I suggest that you post your profile on it as well. I hope this helps. Do keep me posted on the progress that you make. I wish you the very best in your second innings. Regards, Keerthi

Hello, I am a Post graduate with 10yrs of experience in executive assistance and operations with various MNC in Delhi/NCR but now I need some work from home options with considerable remuneration so that I can take care of my infant and have no financial loss. Can you please guide on what jobs can I look for as right now the pay scale available for WFH jobs is very low and not career oriented.
16 Jul 2016, 05:09pm
Hi Supnit, It is good to hear that you intend to restart your career. However, before I suggest options ,it would be important for me to know what your areas of interest are, and your current skills. Until then, I would recommend the following - 1. Create a compelling profile on LinkedIn highlighting your skills, experience and interests. Do get a few recommendations from your earlier employers/peers/team members, and include them as well. 2. Sign up to obtain jobs updates from shereos, jobsforher ,workflexi.in and womerestart that primarily focus on careers for women 3. Read and learn to upskill yourself to suit the job that you wish to take. 4. Network, Network, Network! Hope to hear from you with more details. Best, Keerthi

Hello Kirti, Thank you for reaching out to Sheroes. It feels great to hear from women who wish to restart their careers and I am glad you have thought about it now. Hi Keerthi , I am an oracle apps technical consultant with 10+ years of experience .I used to work for TCS before I quit this Aug (Aug 2015) as I felt I was not able to manage . I have a 2 year old child and my husband is into sales and travels often . I love my job and I miss it ...I have tried looking for remote work through upwork ,freelancer..but there hardly seem to be anything available in the skillset I have ...I am at crossroads now and am wondering what I can do ? I love working with a team and have worked in a number of roles such as developer/technical lead as well as project lead . I am skilled in orace ,pl/sql ,BI publisher,OAF,unix and AOL . What would you suggest?
04 Mar 2016, 04:01pm
Hi Sailaja, There are 2 things that I can suggest right away. One is to look for opportunities on elance.com and other such platforms where people/companies seek out individuals who can work on their specific projects or requirements. However, given that your skills are very specific, I am not sure how many opportunities you may find that would be suitable for your skill. Some of the startups look for freelancers or contract employees to help them with specific projects as well. You could look for them on job boards, linkedIn, angel list etc. Hence the 2nd option. Technology has been evolving quite rapidly and there are a lot more newer skills that are in demand. You would notice that many of the colleagues who worked with you may have transitioned over the years to different skills by now. I suggest that you learn some new skills that would help you make yourself relevant to the current requirements of companies. If you are particular about developer roles, you could learn Java, Hadoop & Big data that are much in demand currently. Else you may choose Technical writing, Testing, Technical documentation etc. There are a lot of short term courses available online which can help you decide your long term focus. You can also consider management courses from good institutes that would help you take on technical management or people management roles. Do keep checking various job boards and women oriented forums on sheroes, jobsfor her, workflexi, restart women on potential opportunities, training updates etc. Hope this helps. I wish you all the very best in your career aspirations. Best, Keerthi

Location would not be a constraint for part time recruiter's job. I suggest you join some of the recruitment groups on LinkedIn to get connected with agencies looking for such professionals. 17 Dec 2015, 11:14am
Hi Suma, Your background doesn't give me enough to guide you exactly. Are you looking for technical jobs in telecom industry or in the IT industry? What is it that you are keen to do? Whatever you choose to do, given that you have a long gap it would be good for you to get back to studies and upskill yourself. There are short term and long term courses available for most skills. Some of the institutes offer training as well as placement services too. Along with that. I would also recommend that you look at e-learning sites such as coursera & udemy that offer a variety of technical trainings, mostly for no fee. They would also help you get more clarity on the options that you could consider for long term, based on your interest. I hope this helps. Best wishes with your career transition, Keerthi

Hi Keerthi, I am a BSc graduate. I have worked part time in a multinational firm for 5 years and worked from home for about a year as a proofreader. Now I want to pursue a full time career. Please guide me. I had done software engineering course for 2 years from Aptech computers and worked as a faculty for 1 year. I am confused and dont know how and from where to start.
14 Dec 2015, 03:41pm
Hi Kamrunnisa, Thank you for reaching out on Sheroes platform. What are your areas of interest? What kind of roles would you like to build your full time career in? Since you mentioned your SE course, I am assuming that you might be considering getting into IT. If so, I would suggest that you study further. Since you are a BSc graduate, get a Master's degree in CS or a MCA. For a hardcore IT role for a non Engineering student, a master's degree is a huge advantage. Along with that, I would also recommend that you take up specialized training in testing or QA or technical writing which are tech enabling functions. These will add to your credentials in the long run. If you are not looking for development/QA roles in IT, you could consider joining the ITeS segment, as tech support engineer/customer support engineer with any of the tech firms. Companies like Accenture & Dell are constantly looking for BSc graduates. The other option is to become a medical transcriptionist. Whatever you choose to do continue your learning through online forums or elearning sites. In the current times, it is very important for us to keep upgrading our skills and keep learning. Find your passion, and use all the available resources to groom it further. I wish you all the very best in your new move. Keerthi

Hi Mahi, Thank you for reaching out to us on Sheroes platform. Life does throw a lot of challenges to us many times. But I am glad that you have decided to take charge of your life, and are looking for work opportunities. You have not provided any details regarding your education qualification or your earlier work experience. They would help me provide you with specific options. In the meantime, I recommend that you make a good resume that talks of your strengths and skills, and upload them on all job portals as well as on forums like jobsforher.com/workflexi.in which, like sheroes, focus on flexible work options for women. It would also be good for you to think about the kind of jobs that you would like to do, and connect with relevant companies/people on LinkedIn/twitter. Many times, more than your resume, one's network can help you land a good job. I am sure you will be able to get through this phase and get a hold on your professional life soon. Keep your self esteem and confidence high, believe in yourself and your strengths, and stay focused on your goal. 29 Jun 2015, 12:08pm
Priya, I think with your master's degree and your prior experience in technology field, it should not be a challenge to find a suitable opportunity. I assume that you are racing and keeping yourself abreast with the new trends in your area of interest. Have you tried working as a freelancer on projects from elance and such? If not you should. They help you stay in touch with your coding and also helps companies to shortlist your profile with your recent experience. I also suggest that you consider using technology forums such as stackoverflow/github to engage with the technology folks. A lot of companies are now investing in gender diversity, and are hiring women for various positions. Keep an eye on all job forums and Linkedin for such opportunities. Many companies encourage hiring non working women as experienced interns so that they know your ability to learn and adapt, without investing much. This is a great opportunity for one to consider since it provides you an opportunity to train & upskill yourself, and get up to speed with your peers. Please follow companies of your interest on Linkedin to get regular updates and also, engage with them so that they get to know you before you meet them for a job. I would also suggest that you upload your resume on forums like workflexi.in / jobsforher.com that are similar to sheroes.in. Do keep me posted how your efforts are materialising. If you need any assistance at any point feel free to reach out to me on keerthi.kariappa@gmail.com. Will be happy to help. Best wishes in your search for new beginnings, Keerthi

08 Apr 2015, 03:12am
Hi Pratibha, Thank you for reaching out to SHEROES. You haven't mentioned what your educational background is, and what you teach presently. That would have helped me to provide a concrete suggestion. Its a good thing that you are looking at changing your profession. However, I would ask you to retrospect on your reasons for doing so, and also, for choosing software industry as your next platform. It is important that you involve in something that you would enjoy doing in the long term. In case you are sure about pursuing a career in software testing, I recommend that you take up testing courses from institutes that also place the students with corporates after training (like Testing Czars in Bangalore.). There are also a lot of free courses available on platforms like coursera and udemy. Take these courses to help you in understanding the overall testing process, the related tools and technologies, and also how it impacts a technology organisation. These would be a good start for you. As far as working from home is concerned, until you have the technical know-how, you would not be able to take up assignments. Once you gain some experience you could work with organisations that offer flex-work options or you can look for freelance opportunities through platforms like elance.com. Do keep me posted on how you go about with this. Will be more than happy to offer any guidance in your journey ahead. Best, Keerthi

Hi Keerthi. I have done MBA In HR and Mktg and have more than 6 yrs of experience. 4.4 yrs in Banking Operations, 1 yr in recruitment and 1.3 yrs in teaching at a mgmt institute. Regds Jyothi
07 Jan 2015, 08:55am
Dear Jyothi, Thank you for connecting. I am impressed that you have tried so much already to identify the career path you wish to follow. Not many usually know what they wish to do as much as those who know what they do not want to do. Yes, the gaps in the profile may be a hinderance, but only if your strengths are not projected right on your resume. Firstly, make your profile to emphasize that part of your experience that you wish to project; include your achievements and accomplishments. Secondly, build your network with people in the area of work that you wish to be part of, and engage as much as possible with them. This could be through LinkedIn connections, groups or twitter conversations and chats. Your network will enable your learning and understanding of the skills required to succeed in your career of choice. Fill the gaps in learning with reading and taking up online courses from coursera, udemy and such platforms that offer certified courses as well. If HR is your potential career option, take part in HR related chats on twitter, such as #plugHR and #iHRChat. This not just helps in expanding your knowledge on the subject, but also helps you connect with key people from various organizations who may be able to help you further. These should be a good start for you to move ahead. Feel free to write in to keerthi.kariappa@gmail.com should you need any assistance or support. Wish you all the very best, Jyothi. Regards, Keerthi

29 Dec 2014, 06:36pm
Dear Sunita, thank you for reaching out and connecting with me. Congratulations on your decision to restart your career. The good thing for you, is that you have an idea on what you would like to do, and it is half the battle won. You have mentioned that you have prior experience in HR. If wish to continue in the same field, there are multiple options that you can consider - You could become a HR consultant and work with start-ups/small businesses to help them manage HR, OR partner with firms that are into HR consulting. If you specialize in training, coaching or recruitment, you could follow the same route, but partner with firms that specialize in these. Anything related to HR does not require huge initial investments. Having run a HR & Recruitment consulting firm myself, I can vouch for that. Start small, by yourself or with a partner, build a good customer base and deliver right, before investing in additional infrastructure or resources. Let me know once you decide how you wish to go forward, and I will connect you with a few of my friends and acquaintances who you can work with. In the meantime, I strongly suggest that you use Social media and professional media very effectively, and build your own network. Follow and engage with the HR professionals on twitter, learn from them, understand the changing trends in HR, learn from other business owners/entrepreneurs, get ideas on how you would like to build your business and expand your knowledge. I hope this helps. Feel free to connect with me on keerthi.kariappa@gmail.com anytime. Best wishes with your second innings :) ? Regards, Keerthi

16 Dec 2014, 05:42pm
Hello Lavanya, I am glad that you are clear on what your career should look like. I am assuming that you have done a training on Base SAS. Do you have a certification for this course? When you learn something new, it is always better to get certified, since that adds value on your resume. I would also recommend that you look through the job portals such as indeed.com, naukri.com etc., to review the job postings for SAS professionals to understand what skills companies are seeking. Based on this knowledge, plan your education appropriately, so that you have the right skills for the job. There are plenty of online courses available these days, such as coursera, udemy etc. (refer to this link - https://www.quora.com/What-are-some-websites-similar-to-Coursera) where you can take up certifications on the subjects that you are interested in, and that are relevant for your job search. I also recommend that you create a strong LinkedIn profile which speaks for your skills and interests, and start following companies that hire SAS candidates. Identify some of the key people in these companies, and start engaging with them. Keep following the jobs on platforms such as sheroes.com and other job boards. I also recommend that you look for opportunities with some of the SAS training institutes where they offer placement as well. Initial opportunities may be on contract, but they would give you the right experience that would eventually help you in getting permanent opportunities. I hope this helps. Best, Keerthi

Dear Vidyullatha, Happy to connect with you. If you do not wish to work in the BPO sector, and HR is your passion, then you must look at developing your skills towards that. Studying MBA in HR from a good institute would be a great option. However, if you are unable to pursue full time studies, then you could study while you work too. Infosys is an organization where one can move across departments if one has the competency. Once you complete your studies, you might consider the option of moving to HR within Infosys. However, only curriculum will not be sufficient to become the best in your field. Invest time in reading HR blogs to understand real time problems and solutions, network with other HR professionals through LinkedIn and Twitter and develop your soft skills to empower you to deal with the corporate world better. I hope these will help you to take the initial steps towards your dream. Good luck with your aspirations. Best, Keerthi

I have done my masters in pharmacy and have 5.5 years of corporate pharma industry experience. i had a rural posting 6 months back with an ngo based in healthcare as part of a csr activity where i realized i have a flair of teaching because of my background is story telling, music and drama and am mainly good with enhancing people's interaction and communication skills. i got interested in MA in education course by azim premji university whose course work matches my personality. what i am skeptical now is that i am unable to decide whether i should quit my job to pursue this course or should i do BEd or DEd through distance education while working?

And now when I am trying to switch back to development the employers need relevant experience in the stream. Off late I have developed huge interest in big data technologies and i am working hard to enhance my skills.I want to be a data engineer or a data scientist which may need a professional degree. Hi Keerthi, Am Vineela. Compared to many on the forum, am good with my job. But I feel am more capable and can be at a much better position than my current position and am in desperate need for guidance. I have 8+ years of experience in Mainframes application development, enhancement and support. From past 2 years am into AS400 development working for a healthcare product. Though I am very good with my communication skills, very good grades and was placed through campus in Wipro Tech., am still a Developer and am feeling very depressed about that and not satisfied with my current work profile. Would you suggest me to join Bigdata Hadoop training? Though I had in mind to join for the course I never did it as I wasn't sure how relevant it is for my experience. Can you please guide my on what I can do to move ahead in my career.....
