Hi Babita, your tips on progressing in second career innings, work from home legions in particular.
14 Jun 2016, 06:22am
Hi Savitha, I have never been a huge propagator of work from home as I feel it is a suboptimal option. Except when things are really up against a wall. If we want a professional life, we have to be professional about the way we approach the work. Work out a support system at home. Kids and family are very proud of working mums. They understand and lives are led in a way that everyone is happy. I do know however that there are some options for working out of home. You must explore those. See the job profile, how they will evaluate and incentivise you, what is your career path.

Hi, what do you suggest needs to be taken care once someone wants to restart her career after a long maternity break, may be after 6 to 10 years, will her previous competencies be considered, even with a brush up will she be able to catch up with the trend of the industry? Or she should start exploring other options?
14 Jun 2016, 05:53am
Hi Sabyasachi, welcome back to the industry:-). 6- 10 years is indeed a long break. I would start off by writing a good CV, that answers a key question for both ourselves and potential employers. What is it that you can bring to the table that makes you relevant? What are the learnings you have had? Have you been in touch at all with the industry? What have you done in these years as a passion? As you put this down, you may realise you do have a host of experiences which may not be job related, but can be your strengths. Once you have that in palce, do meet up a few good placement agencies and understand options. Cheers and all the best.

Hi Babita, How does one stay relevant in the advertising and marketing profession given all the changes? What shift do you visualize?
14 Jun 2016, 05:48am
Hi Sairee, we always have to adapt ourselves to change. The shift today is in the way the consumer is connected, the social world where the primary currency is experience. However, with all that, what remains constant is the power of the idea. In advertising and marketing, the idea is the holy grail. The manifestation of that idea is changing- the expression of it is shifting. We live in a world of collaboration and cocreation. To be relevant, we have to have an open mind, skill or reskill ourselves if required and constantly be at the edge of trends. The shifts are I visualize are a) videos will rule the day b) experiences will make a big difference c) art is back in our lives and we can charge a premium for it d) small crack teams will be the order of the day.

Hi Moksham, thanks for writing in. The good thing is that you do want a career. However, we can't have the best of both worlds. Hi Divya, I can only answer this in a general way as I am not from your field of experience. My first response to all women who want to work. It is NEVER best of both worlds. We all have families. But we have our own dreams too. We need to take a call that we will take time out and work to meet our dreams. Having said that, there will be some job profiles that are more on the clock- 9-5 -than others. However, all of us work well over the office ending time. Profession means competing, excelling, outperforming. At times, you may have to stay back. Office hours have nothing to do with work life balance. A happy family, quality time, a life that we love leading together, is what we can make happen, in whatever job we work in. Thanks.

Sure. But sending a CV is not the answer. You have to be relentless in your pursuit. What is your argument for your current "not working status"? Talent is hired for productivity in every organisation and recruiters therefore have an obligation to hire people who can convince them that they are indeed the most capable of meeting the requirements for that role. Since you have not been working, your argument has to be compelling. Look into yourself and find out that one strength you have that can make a difference to the organisation. Express it. And keep looking. Fortune favors the brave as they say. Love Babita

Hello mam. I finished my Post-Graduation in 2015 and immediately i got married. iam in a confusion about how to start my career. Because of gap after P.G, iam unable to get opportunities. Please Suggest me how to start my career. Thanks in advance.

A career can start any time:-). So do not look at marriage as a barrier. However ask yourself first, why are you unable to get opportunities. What are the areas where you have fallen short, when it comes to interviews. Do you have a well written CV? Please email me yours so that I can take a look. That is the first starting point. Also have a good LinkedIn profile. Most recruiters check candidates out there. Finally, you must be ready to give your career 100%. If you are, there's no stopping you. Regards Babita

Bhawna, I love your ambition. This is the way to go. To start off, you will need a portfolio. Shot by a professional photographer. Then you have to share this with model coordinators, modelling agencies. Once you are done with your portfolio, I can share some names of modelling agencies and coordinators. All the best Babita

Hi Babita, Greetings! Hope you are doing well? I am a marketing and communications professional with an experience of 15+yrs. Have worked with Media, Banking, BPO. My last job was with one of the top BPO's in communications. However, due to certain personal reasons - had to quit . It's been 6 months that I have been applying to jobs but with no interview calls. My CV is good and I have the required skills and talent. But, CV not getting shortlisted - means that there are still gaps which I am not able to figure out. Can I please request you to review my CV and your inputs will help me gain confidence if I am on the right track. And if required, i'll make the recommended changes. May I please request to have your email address enabling me to mail you the resume? Thanks Leena
