How should a lady portray herself while returning to work after a break?
05 Jan 2017, 03:40pm
Dear One, A very relevant question. I am really happy to suggest the following: Donts 1. Dont be tentative and unsure, accept that you have taken a break for reasons and are okay with it. 2. Dont stop your self from learning and unlearning. Its okay to ask even from youngsters. Dos 1. Spend extra time being uptodate, read, enroll for courses, you have much to make up for the time lost. Be willing to burn the midnight oil, read newspapers, stay relevant. 2. Spend a little longer at work, build and maintain relationships, ask for mentors and coaches, if not enroll them yourself. 3. Ask your boss to coach you in spare time. Wish you a great career ahead. Regards

Dear Susmitha, The ideal situation is to be sure of the career one wants to take up and then persist in that area. Executive search is only an option if you are in dire need of money and want to take up anything that comes your way. I suggest you stick to analytics as that is an emerging area and can be real career choice. You can take up teaching analytics in the interim , till you find some thing suitable. All the best. 14 Dec 2016, 11:12pm
Dear Akshaya, You must have signed a joining letter , which states that the contract can be terminated on either side by giving X months notice. Hence this contract holds good. You will have to pay the notice pay contractually to get the relieving letter. However on compassionate grounds you can ask the head of HR or MD of that bank to waive aside the notice period by showing them your heath records etc. If they agree then you may get your letter without notice period. However they have to ensure it is not setting a precedent , hence only can do it on compassion. All the best.
