Being a home based entrepreneur and working from the comfort of your couch seems like an excellent choice. You are great at your task and the fridge is just eleven steps away. What could be a better life? It’s like what they show in your regular Bollywood flicks too. But even though this starts of as an amazingly ingenious idea, the extent of fall in your output becomes significantly visible with time.
Now, “work from home” is the most convenient way to work to “try” homepreneurship. But you are at home! And rules start to crumble when you are at the one place you can be yourself. There is no one monitoring you and procrastinating all the work is only the beginning. With work getting delayed, your responsibilities at home suffer. With work-life balance staggering; your peace of mind is sure to go up on your puff level! Plus with almost negligible social interaction; one might feel bored even estranged on a solitary island! Creativity content and quality of your otherwise sparkling work, begin to write.
There are a few ways you can actually keep your work office under check. And your sanity too thereat! Let’s take a look!
Boundaries With Family
You are at home and even though you may deny you segregate work and home related jobs, there will always be unavoidable smudged boundaries. Just because you are working doesn’t imply you cannot get the door or fill up the bottles! It can be tempting to take a quick break to handle those chores or spend a few moments with your kids, or watch TV, but you need to avoid these distractions as much as possible. They don’t seem much, infact they don’t take more than a minute to get done, but be careful what you are doing to your concentration. If you get up once for the smallest errand, it’s might get little difficult to get back to work. Not only this, but you start taking all your time for granted which is a dangerous habit.
Set up a locked door, “family hours,” or even a fancy backyard office. You need to establish an image before your family, according to which you have work to do when you are at home. For them, it may seem like you are pretty chilled out, all laid back at home. But it is important for them to remember that although you’re at home all day, you can’t be called upon to play a game or run for groceries. Remind them in a gentle, kind way that you are working (until your work hour is up) and should not be disturbed unless there’s an emergency or you’re taking a break.
What You Wear Counts
When you are with people, all you can think is “I’ll be in my suit and tie”. But this is your home office. You have nobody to impress here. You can wear whatever you want to without a single worry about what everyone will think of. As long as you are comfortable in what you wear you will ooze of creativity, right? Bubble burst?
Sure, comfort is important but it has a very bad influence on your productivity. Now that’s not to say you shouldn’t dress comfortably, but it’s important to demarcate “chill out” gear from “get serious” attire. When you’re wearing pajamas, your brain is sub consciously in the relaxation mode. You always feel like you’re in bed and chances are you will be acting like that as well. When you get up in the morning, dress up like you are heading for work. Shower, coffee, professional dress (not all that much, who are we kidding? But you get the point), breakfast. Period! Quit the relaxed zone physically and your mind will follow. Once you’re dressed its simple- Just get to work like you should.
The Socializing Factor
If you stay cooped up for too long, you are going to make a mess of your head as well as your work. You need to step outside once in a while, get some fresh air, and get yourself some literal sunshine. Take your work outside to a coffee shop maybe, or some library. Anywhere is great as long as you get to step outside. A change of atmosphere is what you need.
De-Clutter The Work Space
Want to work good? Then, you need to keep your home workspace organized too. You are at home, but you still need to (sigh!) clear and manage your work space without any special headache. Having a cluttered work environment causes stress and impedes productivity. You do not want something as trivial as cleanliness making you feel lethargic and grumpy all day long! Make the décor welcoming and full of positivity for a better productivity.
Not only cleaning up, but you need to play your own personal assistant. Manage everything you have. It’s really important to invest in organization, so don’t be afraid to spend money on anything that will keep your organized: a good filing system, a large desk, and a sizeable monitor.
Time The Work From Home Time
Okay, you are no machine obviously so you can’t be expected to work for the entire day! Plus, you surely would want to relish the perks of working from home; i.e. no 9-5 working around the clock. Here is the fun part (that you probably already know, it’s that obvious) of freelancing: you can finish the day’s targets in about four hours and watch your favorite show for the rest of the day. Quality is all that matters to freelancers and quantity is hardly a fair measure to their work. So, plan and sketch out how and when will you do everything and accordingly work it out. Work hours, family hours and leisure hours; discipline is the key!
Not only the tasks at hand, but make sure you are updated with new work, clients, schedules etc. React to emails, calls, and tweets as quick as possible. Stick to one type of routine, and you’ll find yourself more productive throughout the day. Now, obviously you can vary the hours from time to time because that is how freelancing works. And don’t be too strict with your schedule. Keep things flexible, but still give yourself guidelines on when you should start work every day, when you should have lunch, and when you should call it quits.

Think of KRAFTLY
The land of India is indeed rich in its history, cultural heritage and age-old and evergreen tradition of handicrafts. Kraftly is a pursuit by young and thoughtful people to develop a visual martketplaces to share with the world the art and values preserved by India. We believe in uniting artisans, homepreneurs and other small retailers with seekers of craft across the globe, thereby encouraging craftsmen to further strengthen the roots of Indian diversity.
There are over 50M homepreneurs, artisans and flea market sellers that currently have no avenue to sell online except for unorganized channels such as WhatsApp and Facebook. Further, a large number of consumers have no place to discover such eclectic products except in an offline setting. Kraftly wants to become the one-stop shop to cater to both these audiences.
Currently available options, allow small and hobby sellers to only sell through platforms such as classified listings. However, this doesn’t address the fundamental problem associated with commerce – which is payments and shipping. Kraftly addresses these issues and offers a complete buying and selling experience that truly makes it the first C2C marketplace of India. The app enables any individual, hobby seller or shop owner to create their own branded micro-shop, list products and receive payments on the go – without requiring any paperwork. Kraftly completely manages payments and logistics for each seller thereby allowing the long tail of small and home sellers to go online.
Until now, it was difficult to reach small sellers, but with the explosion of the smartphone market in India, the dynamics are in favor. For a lot of these sellers, introduction to the Internet has been through the smartphone making it the first medium to get online. The listing process on Kraftly is as simple as adding a picture to Facebook or WhatsApp.
By bringing a large supply of un-standard products online, Kraftly will become a one stop mobile app to shop for unique, quirky and trendy products across categories. Since products are being listed directly by the creator, prices will also be relatively cheaper than what consumers are used to paying. This makes Kraftly a win-win situation for both the seller and the buyer.
