Before winding up this year, we take a look back at some of the major stories, which grabbed our attention.

The most reported ones being, of course the US Presidential Elections 2016. President-elect Donald Trump hijacked the newsrooms with his comments, speeches and leaked videos.

Not surprisingly, US election 2016 was also one of the most read stories of this year. Let’s rewind and refresh our memory, which other major happenings shared the spotlight.

POLITICS

Apart from Trump’s trumpet, Hillary’s email controversy, and BREXIT kept the readers hooked.

Donald Trump Sweeps 2016 US Presidential Elections:

Finally it happened. Donald Trump sweeped the US presidential elections with a landmark victory. Trump has also secured 270 votes in the Electoral College to formally win the United States presidency.

A joint session of Congress, scheduled for January 6 will certify the results of the Electoral College vote.

Once the result is certified Mr Trump will be sworn in on 20th January.

Everything from being an outsider to blatantly displaying white supremacy, scandals etc; worked in his favour.

Hillary Clinton’s E-mails Controversy

Simply breaking down the long drawn controversy, Hillary Clinton used a private email server, situated in her New York home, while she was secretary of state, from 2009 to 2013. She has admitted that it was an honest mistake.

The FBI in July, concluded that Clinton and her aides had been “extremely careless” in their handling of classified information. Although no “reasonable prosecutor” will bring criminal case against her.

But right before the voting, i.e. 11 days prior to the elections, a new batch of emails were brought out for examination.

She retorted by saying that it was more convenient for her to access her emails from a single device and single account.

Sadly there are no takers for her explanation. Critics on both the left and the right have expressed concern that her reliance on a "homebrew" email system made her communications more susceptible to hackers and foreign intelligence services.

Donald Trump's Behaviour With Women In Private

This was probably the most embarrassing scandals from all of his previous ones. The leaked videos consolidated Trump’s misogynistic take towards women.

Later he tended an apology, but blamed his detractors for using the opportunity to steer away people’s attention from “real issues.”

BREXIT Crisis

The BREXIT was a sign of significant  departure from tradition. A referendum voted in the favour of Britain’s exit from the European Union, an economic and political partnership involving 28 European countries.

The UK Independence Party, has campaigned for many years for Britain's exit from the EU.

They said Britain was being held back by the EU, which imposed too many rules on business and charged billions of pounds a year in membership fees for little in return.

They also wanted Britain to take back full control of its borders and reduce the number of immigrants coming to live and/or work.

SCIENCE

Gravitational waves carry completely different information about phenomena in the universe. So the discovery has opened a new way of listening to a broadcasting channel which will allow us to discover phenomena we have never seen before.
