We have been fed the concept that educational degrees amount to a secure life. A high percentage in your report card will translate into a bright and better future. Nothing against parents who push their children to strive for academic excellence. But, there are times when you feel the need to explore yourself and break free from the box that you have been caged into.
Does life really #suck if you don’t have a bachelor's degree? Let’s name a few stalwarts. Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Mary Kom, Aamir Khan, Steve Jobs and Azim Premji. So, the list is impressive. Then again, this is just one end of the spectrum, the other end is swarming with college dropouts whose stories don’t make it to any list.
We aren’t encouraging kids to stop pursuing their education, but the dearth of vocational courses in our education system is a sad reality. Children who want to become anything other than an engineer or a doctor, find it difficult to navigate their unconventional aspirations. There are other systemic roadblocks too.
But today we aren’t talking about them. We have enlisted jobs for you which doesn’t necessarily need a bachelor’s degree.
Well, ironically no minimum educational qualification is required to become an MP or MLA in our country. The Constitution while mentioning the various eligibility conditions, does not mention anything about educational qualification. The perks involved are; a salary of more than INR 60000 per month to free unlimited first class AC train travels, limited air travels, holiday, free posh accommodation, vehicle, telephone, gas and all other essential amenities. But, make no mistake, a politician is the representative of the people and unlike the image; a politician’s life is challenging and demanding if done with sincerity. Serving people is no mean feat.
Yep, no degree needed here too. We all know that showbiz is not about academics, but it is also not a cake walk. The struggles, the sweat, the breakdowns, all are real. But then again the rewards are equally amazing. Fame, money, luxury, you name it and you get that.
