Tell us about yourself
Born and brought up in Delhi, I did my schooling from Air Force Bal Bharti school. Despite of having a creative bent of mind, I opted for commerce as my field of study and went on to pursue B.Com (h) from Delhi University and Chartered Accountancy post schooling. Post graduation, I joined an accounting firms, EY as a consultant. Post serving around 3.5 years in EY and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, I moved to KPMG as a Senior in its Deal Strategy & Restructuring. After serving 2 years at KPMG, I started my own venture in the field of fashion.
What led you to start AEOM Couture?
The drive to pursue something of my own and my creative bent of mind led me to start AEOM Couture. While working in the corporate did give me a handsome paycheque, it could never satisfy my creative side and urge to do something of my own. Fashion has always been my greatest passion and I always wanted to work in the field of fashion.
However, in order to differentiate ourselves in the overcrowded space of e-commerce and on identifying the growing need for customization, we started building the first of its kind web based platform that enables our customers to customize their favorite designs from our standard products to suit their personal style. What's more – the complete customised garment can be viewed in 3D real in time.
How big is your team? How do you hire?
We are a team of 5 people including designers and graphic designer. We generally make direct campus recruitment from top fashion institutes such as NIFT, Pearl Academy of Fashion or JD institute of Fashion Technology.
What are the challenges you face?
Finding the right and cost effective manufacturer was our biggest hurdle in starting up AEOM Couture. However, we have now overcome the same. Reaching out to our target customer market and getting high conversions from our own website while controlled marketing expenditure has remained our biggest challenge.
What are your plans for expansion for the next year?
We believe that the traditional offline presence is still the best mechanism of generating sales and gaining the right traction. The Indian market is still reluctant to buy fashion online and is prefers the touch and feel factor. In addition to our online presence, we plan to move offline with presence at strategic locations in all the metro cities.
In addition to this, we plan to roll out new collection on a weekly basis to maintain customer interest in the brand.
