Magnificent Mary Targets 2020 Olympics
Mary Kom, the fiery boxer has expressed her wish to clinch gold in the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics 2020.
She had advanced to 51 kg category to compete in the 2012 London Olympics, but had to settle for bronze. Mary also faced disappointment, when she failed to qualify for the Rio Olympics, earlier this year.
Speculations are rife that the International Boxing Association are reportedly mulling over introducing 48kg division in the Tokyo Olympics.
Announcing that she will retain her pugilism in the 48 kg category, Kom said her immediate focus for now are on the upcoming Asian & Commonwealth games, 2018.
Following a glum period, the Olympian is looking forward to her return, with renewed hopes of winning accolades for the country at international platforms.
AIBA Legend Award
Mary is set to be honoured with the legend award by the International Boxing Association for her exemplary contribution in the field of boxing.
The London Olympics medallist and five-time world champion is doing her bit to make the sport famous among the youth.
Mary Kom Regional Boxing Federation has partnered with Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) to work towards assisting and preparing boxers for national and international tournaments.
This, she believes, will raise the level of the sport in the country. Mary Kom believes that women boxing is becoming more popular and her vision is to produce more champions from her academy. Gyms and outdoor rings have been installed to train the underprivileged youngsters for this purpose.
Keeping our fingers crossed for a probable gold from this pocket-sized, powerhouse pugilist. We wish Mary Kom success in her endeavours.
